This very colourful scheme was designed by São Paulo graffiti artist Pardal. It celebrates Brazil's wildlife with six blue macaws and some icons of the Brazilian flora all over the fuselage. Not both sides are different. While the fuselage is painted since early 2020, Covid-19 pushed back test and delivery of the plane to Azul, with first flight occuring in October 2020.
Azul is teaming up with SKY for its onboard television offer. SKY Brasil operates a subscription television service in Brazil. It produces TV content, and owns several TV channels.
«Red, White and Azul» was advertising the group’s online travel agency Azul Viagens. The silhouettes on the starboard side were US landmarks, including the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, a typical Wild West scene as well as dolphins, an eagle and a flamingo. The Airbus A330s have indeed been used to launch services to the US. Meanwhile the port side showed typical Brazilian scenery.
In 2014 an A330 joined Embraer 195 PR-AYV with this awesome flag-themed livery! The scheme is nicknamed "Bandeirão" (Big Flag). Note the stars are arranged slightly differently on the two engines.
The design is the result of a 2011 public contest entitled «Sua Arte lá em Cima /Your artwork up in the air». The author is Azul customer Fernando Guernieri from Curitiba. Hundreds of designs were sent to the airline and the winner was chosen for the "Brazilianness" and creativity of its design. Note the aircraft was in fact only unveiled at the Embraer factory in São José dos Campos more than a year after the contest result.
This colourful design mixes Brazilian culture and landscapes: the famous Sugar Loafs of Rio de Janeiro and its beaches as well as a toucan can be seen on the port side. The starboard side is themed around the famous Capoeira, with players and a pandeiro, a type of tambourine used in this Brazilian martial art. Capoeira was developed by slaves from West Africa and it combines dance, acrobatics and music.
